I am thankful to have a brain, and that I am not one of sheep.

Hello and ” Happy Thanksgiving”. I personally observe a day of mourning each year on this day to remember that the Natives who who saved the lives of the European pilgrims on this day so long ago were repaid with treachery, disease, cruelty and ultimately the theft of their home, their culture and finally their very existence. (Sadly, had the mestizos and criollos actually practiced what they were taught, there might be no need for Greenpeace today). Next: about me. I consider myself a naturalist rather than an environmentalist. The natural world is a recondite Elysium in which humans are a neoteric and pro tempore mummer ( with a disproportionate influnce, unfortunately). The term environmentalist,[Environment, milieu, ambiance, setting, surroundings all refer to what makes up the atmosphere or background against which someone or something is seen,] lends credence to the erronious idea that we are the proprietors of the Earth. I have loved nature far more than people all my life. When I was 18, I emulated a book I read as a child and lived indepedently and self sufficiently in the mountains for nearly a year. I saw 4 people during that time and became intimate with the non-human world. It is a truly remarkable entity. I still make annual solo trips for several weeks at a time. My heroes are Edward Abbey, John Burroughs, John Muir,George Bird Grinnell, Gifford Pinchot and Walt Whitman. Teddy Roosevelt had great foresight and made some great decisions regarding preserving wild places. ( he is not a hero to me as I feel all his other conquests were erronious and egotistical. It’s ironic he is known for saying “Bully!” as that is what he started the US on it’s course to being. A bully.)

I personally consider the entire timeline of Earth when thinkining of issues` au naturel.’ So when looking at global warming, to call it unprescedented is completely incorrect. By nature, Earth is a tropical planet. The evidence of this is incontrovertible. Reptiles, as they do not produce their own heat, cannot survive freezing temperatures. For Dinosaurs to have grown to such huge proportions evedences long , uninterrupted periods of warmth. Our precious oil is the result of the decomposition of enormous quantities of vegetable matter, ie; jungle/ rainforest.Considering the location of oil in modern times, this demonstrates not only continental drift but the lack of any arctic zones. The climate history is cyclic though, and the old periods are not disputed. Their causes are well understood to be times when sunlight reaching the Earth was restricted. Most often, this was the result of an impact by a comet/ meteor which displaced into the atmosphere such incomprehensible volumes of dust, smoke and ash as to block out sunlight and lower the Earth’s mean temperature significantly ( recall the threat of” Nuclear Winter” during the old war). These coolings caused mass extinctions of a great many species. Scientists actually concur that several times in the planets earliest history, ALL life was eradicated and the process of life had to start anew. It is felt as well that due to plate techtonics and NEO (Near Earth Object) impacts, trapped subterrainian methane was released in sufficient quantities that the atmosphere actually IGNITED. ( Talk about global warming…) Due to these warm and cool cycles, the sea level has varied a great deal.We are warned these days about the level risng a few feet but remember that North America from the Appalcians to the Rockies was for a long time an ocean nearly a thousand meters deep in places.
My purpose in pointing all of this is simple. The popular suggestion is that this warming is unprecedented. It is not. It is suggested that it is happening very quickly. It is not.Yes, humans seem to be accelerating it with Greenhouse emissions. But emissions thousands of times larger have occurred in the past naturally. Should we work to cut our CO2 emissions? Sure if you want. WE aere going about it in completely the wrong order however which I will explain in my next post. My main complaint with the whole “Global Warming” issue is that in reality, we are not trying to “save the Earth” . WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE THE HUMANS. And it is my opinion that nature would be much better off without us.

All my statements are backed by volumes of references available to any who asks. Now I am off to deliver food. Be well!.

Some Global Warming Pinhead Threatens teh Mothership

Posted on August 9th, 2007 by winston smith

From Walter Williams column.

According to the July 16 Washington Times, Michael T. Eckhart, president of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), sent a threatening missive to Marlo Lewis, senior fellow at the Washington, D.C.-based Competitive Enterprise Institute, which read: “Take this warning from me, Marlo. It is my intention to destroy your career as a liar. If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America. Go ahead, guy. Take me on.”

How tolerant and objective of him.

How to save the tiger.

Posted on May 20th, 2007 by Janet

Which country is thinking about applying free-market principles to wildlife preservation and, in the process, improving the survival chances of a long-endangered species while giving its economy a boost?

Communist China, of course.

Clicking on the above excerpt will take you to a great argument for saving animals subject to poaching by embracing the demand for the products they’re killed for (furs, teeth, bones, etc.)

Farming these animals would meet the demand for the products they’re killed for, in contrast to the current prohibition on the products that increases the value of these animals in the black market and makes it worthwhile to illegally hunt animals in their natural habitats. (Not to mention necessitates the involvement of crime in the production of different products. Sound familiar?)

The article uses tigers as an example - tigers are apparently ridiculously easy to breed, to the point that in India breeding tigers is reduced to avoid overpopulation in zoos.

If a tiger farming market was set up, thousands of tigers a year could be raised to meet the demands of, say, the Chinese markets for different medicinal products or exotic fur traders, reducing the price of tiger products and taking away the incentive to go hunting for an endangered species. In addition, since so many tigers would be bred, reintroduction techniques could be used to further increase the wild tiger population.

Of course there would be opposition to this - the thought of tigers being bred for fur, meat, etc. isn’t a great one. Let’s face it, they’re beautiful animals and it’s not nice (at least for me) to think of them being raised for something like fur or claws, but the pros in this case would greatly outweigh the cons - if we could stop poaching of wild tigers it would be worth it. No government policy will make people stop wanting the products that they want - this is why prohibitions are uniformly detrimental to societies where they’re implemented.

Now, obviously this wouldn’t work for all animals - pandas are notoriously hard to breed in captivity, for instance - but by doing something very simple: providing for a demand on the market, we could save an animal as amazing as the tiger from extinction in the wild.

Bureaucrash joins the Coalition for the Realignment of Pangea

Posted on April 1st, 2007 by Shane

As everyone focuses on global-warming no one is paying attention to the alarming trend that the world itself is drifting ever further apart. The Coalition for the Realignment of Pangea understand that though the fight against global climate change is far sexier than the debate on continental drift, the latter is clearly more demanding of the world‘s attention. Consider the facts:

• Continental Drift is potentially devastating. Scientific study proves that the North American continent is on a collision course with Asia. It is certain that the collision of these two behemoth landmasses will result in previously unseen levels of seismic destruction.

• Continental Drift is affected by human action. The sheer weight of people & artifacts concentrated in specific areas, has led to an observed impact on the settling of land in some places, and raising in others. It is not unlikely that this phenomenon has had an accelerating impact on the drift of the continents themselves.

• The impacts of continental drift are socially regressive, thus demanding a global solution. Developing nations and the poor will be the first to feel the effects of Drift, as the land on which they depend for subsistence shifts from one latitude to another.

It is the belief of this Coalition that an immediate redistribution of population is necessary, in order to counterbalance the movements of continents. Populations in North America must be redistributed to the western seaboard, in order to help encourage the continent back towards the east.

We must also immediately engage in a discovery effort to find methods for using technology to reverse the trend of continental drift, in order to maintain the relative positions of the continents at pre-1996 levels (the last time world maps were updated by Rand McNally). We understand that the use of large diesel engines along the converging coastlines are our best bet in accomplishing this.

Without intervention and immediate action, the Atlantic Ocean will continue to expand, while the Pacific Ocean shrinks. India will continue to push into the southern Asian continent, pushing the Himalayas higher. Meanwhile the city of Los Angles will continue its journey north to join with the city of San Francisco. Eventually, the Mediterranean Sea will disappear, connecting Africa with Europe. And there‘s no telling what this will do to the anti-globalization movement.

We must work in solidarity to insure that the planet‘s resources are marshaled in common, in order to find a way of avoiding this impending disaster.

The Coalition for the Re-Alignment of Pangea (CRAP) is leading the way in tectonic intervention. (Hey, it‘s no crazier than trying to control the climate.)

Climate Crisis Action Day in Review

Posted on March 20th, 2007 by Prof. Scammington

Today, in preparation for the latest installment of The Al Gore Show on Capitol Hill, (anti-)global warming campaigners staged a rally in front of the Capitol to get the troops revved up. Special attention was shown to the Arctic, which is allegedly in deadly peril from a slightly warmer world. One might think that the coldest place in the world could use a few additional degrees, but, according to several of today’s speakers, that would be an insensitive, Western imperialist way to look at things. Or something like that. In any case, see the photos (with irreverant captions!) after the jump:

Of course, we all know the biggest cause of global warming: meat. Tasty, but deadly (for the climate that is). Move over ExxonMobil, Big Steak is the new villain of the month.

It’s true, climate change is creating scary new pest species, the furry-suit activist kid being just one of the more visible examples

Large, cool-looking animals that attract the most donations to conservationist groups are sometimes called “charismatic megafauna.” Sure, we want to save the polar bear, but what about all the seals they mercilessly kill? Cleary, these folks have made their choice.

Sen. Barbara Boxer addresses the crowd, almost breaking her arm in the process of patting herself on the back. Apparently the new key to senatorial greatness is not being Jim Inhofe.

The dour-faced ladies of climate activism

Not everyone will stand up for the earth, but fortunately almost everyone is willing to sit while others talk about it
