Iraq Veterans Against the War to March on the Pentagon

photo4A couple of hours ago I went on a walk with my colleague Drew Tidwell. No, not like that — not that’s there’s anything wrong with that — but to visit our friends involved with Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), who were working to get the word out about their principled opposition to having a U.S. troop presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to their press release:

Iraq Veterans Against the War Commence “OPERATION NOT CHANGE” Iraq and Afghanistan veterans begin a tower-guard vigil across from the White House. The towers will be manned 24 hours a day March 19th to March 21st, Saturday. (All are welcome to come speak to the vets on post and ask questions about their deployments.)

Though they were in good spirits despite being in the elements for 30+ hours they noted that sleep was hard to come by. Not because they didn’t have enough clothes and sleeping bags to stay warm, but because on an almost hourly basis law enforcement from local and federal agencies would stop by and ask to see their permit.

But only one more night then they’ll join thousands of others standing in opposition to the war as they March on the Pentagon this Saturday.

If you’re in/around DC and agree with IVAW’s stance then put on your walking shoes and help communicate that message to others. Be sure to connect with other crashers to let them know you’re coming by RSVPing. And though you won’t agree on all issues with others that will be present, if you value peace and recognize the harms from an aggressive foreign policy there’s a strong chance that you’ll find common ground on this; such an ad hoc coalition can have a big impact. And it’ll be a good venue to have conversations with others about supporting freedom on all issues at all times.

For more background on this issue check out the Stop Statism and Free Trade Now! overviews on Bureaucrash Social and Obama’s Pro War Interventionist Rhetoric, which makes a damning case against Obama’s claimed anti-war stance, compiled by Crasher Mark. Also key is the “What If…” video that recently came out. Then if you’re up for it, why not start a conversation in the Free Trade for Peace and Military - Current and Former Members groups on Bureaucrash Social?
