Freedom-Bound in the Granite State

Last week Surrealpolichick blogged about some of her experiences at the just-concluded Liberty Forum, held in Nashua, NH by the Free State Project (FSP). In it, she noted that:

The amount of energy and vitality and intellectual clarity, voracity, and depth at the NH Liberty Forum was a sight to behold. It made my heart race and my palms sweat and my head wanted to explode because the speakers, the volunteers, the organizers, and the attendees–we, the people–are in the right, we are moral, and our numbers are growing.

As further evidence to her claims I submit the video below by Russian TV, which touches on the event and showcases some of the principled folks involved in the pro-freedom movement in NH (and shows lots of crashers you may know).

One such person is Chris Lawless, organizer of this past Liberty Forum and all around great guy. Chris noted that his main concern is that “the federal government doesn’t follow it’s own rules” and that it violates the U.S. Constitution. That is perhaps the understatement of the year. Is he hopeful that Obama is going to correct this? Not so much, as he noted that “just because he’s charismatic and well-spoken does not make great leader, it makes for great TV.”

Well said.

And I’d argue further that rather than spending your time and resources fighting over who gets to “lead” the country, why not invest in yourself? And realize then that you don’t need someone else to lead you — that you own yourself and that you, not some bureaucrat or politician far away, can make the decisions that impact your own life.

The FSP’s slogan is: Liberty in Our Lifetime. To paraphrase Rich Goldman, another long-time activist with the FSP,  “Would you rather move to a place where you’ll have more freedom tomorrow (and hence a better starting point to gain even more freedom) or be stuck in a place where you can work your whole life and never attain such a level?

Like what you see? Then experience the community and dynamism first-hand by visiting New Hampshire (fill out that form and Free Staters will provide you with info and places to crash!). Or join us at the Porcupine Freedom Festival this June for only $15 (I’ve been twice and they’re excellent). And if you can’t yet commit to moving, you can always become a friend of the FSP.
