DoD Directive Reminds Us to Keep Powder Dry
Today my bud Jim called me with news about a Department of Defense Directive (on pg. 60 C1.9.8.1.2.2) that those in the RKBA movement fear could have severe negative implications. Namely, that it may cause the price of ammo to significantly increase because the military may be prevented from selling spent what’s called once-fired brass (the casing around the bullet) to private businesses.
As GORDON wrote on The Shootist:
It is an end-run around Congress. They don’t need to try to ban guns–they don’t need to fight a massive battle to attempt gun registration, or limit ‘assault’ weapon sales. . . Nope. All they have to do is limit the amount of ammunition available to the civilian market, and when bullets dry up, guns will be useless.
And the folks over at TheHighroad.org noted:
The Dept of Defense has issued a directive that all fired 223, 308, and 50BMG brass will be destroyed rather than being sold to ammunition remanufacturers as has been the custom in the past. No.1….they are cutting off civilian and law enforcement ammunition supplies. No.2….It will cost us, the taxpayers, untold millions due to the lost revenue to the DOD from used brass sales.
Worried ammo supplies will dry up many gun owners are stocking up, causing ammo supply companies — now running three shifts — to be back-ordered for up to two months.
Just where exactly is this headed?
To chat with folks about this head over to the Gun Owners for Freedom group on Bureaucrash Social and if you’re new to this issue I suggest reading the Don’t Tread and Homeland Tyranny overviews.
