Crash the Che Guevara Movie Jan 2009

Posted on December 16th, 2008 by Chris Robertson in Bureaucrash HQ

According to the new Che Guevara Movie Trailer the most important quality for a revolutionary to have is the love of humanity, justice, and truth. This “heroic” description of Che the man however falls short of any historical accuracy of him as a murderer, a radical marxist, and advocate of an extreme form of communism that has resulted in over 100 million deaths in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Asia.

It is ironic that in our country, one with a considerable amount of freedom, Che Guevara is idolized by ignorant teenagers and wanna be middle-class revolutionaries. Little do they know Guevara executed political prisoners, murdered whole families, and even wanted to go so far as to ban rock and roll and jazz music. Che the pop icon is a far cry from Che the murderous extremist.

Crashers are planning to protest in Los Angeles on opening night of this naive and offensive film. I would encourage all crashers in the Southern California area to attend this protest to make sure our outrage as loud as possible as Hollywood continues to perpetuates the “Che Myth”.

Interested crashers should link up with the Los Angeles for Liberty group on Bureaucrash Social. Also, be sure to check out the protest website mentioned above for more details. And remember, real rebels don’t advocate for a tyrannical, centralized state authority.

There are elements of anyone's life including Che's that are worth investigating. Please indulge me and name your hero. I can find fault in him/her also if I look hard enough.

Reason.TV has an excellent anti Che video

"Little do they know Guevara executed political prisoners, murdered whole families, and even wanted to go so far as to ban rock and roll and jazz music. Che the pop icon is a far cry from Che the murderous extremist."

First, the trailer (we're not talking about the movie here) does seem to paint this picture. This seems to me to be a story about a revolutionary regardless of his political leanings (frankly none of them come without death and/or crimes against humanity in every political revolution). It does not appear to be a story about the glory of communism.

Also, I don't understand why you would want to PROTEST someone else's creative output (art). The writers and creators of this movie, as well as the actors and countless others who participated, have every right (the 1st) to express themselves or simply earn capital helping manifest it. How do you, or would you feel if what you have to say or what your interested in is attacked in judgment (or prejudgment)? My guess is probably aggravated and misunderstood (though maybe not). If you’re all this offended than I would recommend simply not paying (trading your time and effort) to see the film, because no one's forcing ANYONE to support it. I think it’s more American to let those who would support it, for whatever reason, just support it. It’s their choice, not yours.

If enough people don’t support it then it pretty much disappears. If you want to help that outcome you can certainly try; and the best and most effective way would be through and NON-judgmental and NON-confrontational education.

Well, I guess it is because Bureaucrash is an activist organization for capitalism and we like to stage "crashes" of anti-capitalist events. Since this movie has been approved by the Cuban Government it probably doesn't paint a very negative picture of Che or of communism. I'm pretty sure having people demonstrate or "Crash" this event is in the spirit of what Bureaucrash is about.

Keep in mind that we are also trying to educate people who would not have otherwise have heard a dissenting opinion. This is an important aspect of our mission.

Of course, I think ‘crashing’ anti-capitalist events and educating people to help them make choices in favor of capitalism is a great and noble American cause. In fact, getting involved in said movement is exactly why I’m here. However, this is not an anti-capitalist event; in fact it’s quite the contrary. The production, release and marketing of this film is a capitalist endeavor that is actively utilizing it’s right to free speech.

Further more, this protest is based all on an assumptions; “Since this movie has been approved by the Cuban Government it PROBABLY doesn’t paint a very negative picture of Che or communism.” First, like I said this is an assumption (what if you’re wrong?), and second who care what the Cuban Government approves or disapproves of? We live in America, where we enjoy the right to freedom of speech.

In regards to the spirit of Bureaucrash; It’s my opinion that painting this network, through poorly thought out demonstrations, as an ignorant, angry and/or anti-1st amendment movement will weaken it and fail to garner the credibility and respect such a cause deserves and NEEDS. Also, by offending people or mismanaging the delivery of Bureaucrashs’ message, you increase the likelihood people will perceive what you’re saying as crazy or extremist.

Educate people, always; but I would be careful to ensure that my use of the 1st Amendment is not infringing on another’s or telling them HOW to “correctly” use theirs. Frankly, what’s more anti-capitalist and anti-American than that?
  • Chris
I think you are jumping the gun here. Nobody is advocating infringing on other people's right to of free speech or their right to see a movie. A crash is supposed to be non-disruptive, educational, and peaceful. How is this offensive or a mismanagement of our message? I think you are vastly mistaken in your assumptions.
