Kop Busters: Watching the Watchmen
Word on the street was that cops in a particular jurisdiction (the video linked to below notes “Odessa, TX” but that may be where the video account was created, not where the footage was shot) were executing questionable warrants under the banner of the war on drugs. Former police officer Barry Cooper (of Never Get Busted fame) teamed with other principled individuals to try to document this activity.
Cooper and team rigged a house with cameras that streamed in real-time to the Internet, plugged in some grow lights (often used by individuals doing indoor marijuana grow operations) and walked away. Sure enough, the property was raided by the cops, much to their chagrin. See the raw footage here.
Classic! Stellar work guys. Hopefully the cops in this video and judge that approved their warrant are held accountable for their actions. Please let us know how we here at Bureaucrash can assist in future endeavors.
As I’ve noted in previous posts, nothing has eroded the Constitution as much as the war on drugs. Even if you don’t know anyone that uses drugs and think their use is morally reprehensible, it’s imperative to understand the real harms that have been caused governmental policies. As our friends at the Drug Policy Alliance say, “drugs are bad, but the war on drugs is worse.”Hell, even current and former law enforcement officers are joining the ranks of drug reformers via Law Enforcement Against Prohibition.
Personally, I wouldn’t even go so far as to say a substance is inherently “good” or “bad”, but believe that each individual owns themselves, so, as long as they don’t harm anyone else, they have the right to put into their body whatever they decide.
