Obama Embraces Militarism
2006 Democrats gained control of both Houses of Congress, due in large part to (correctly) calling out the follies of the Bush Administration and its handling of the Iraq War, not to mention their blatant violations of privacy and suspension of habeas corpus. But Democrats failed to act, reinforcing, for some, that the two major political parties are really one in the same.
In 2008 Obama campaigned as being the candidate of “change” and openly questioned the war in Iraq. But, despite not even having taken office yet, Obama has stated that U.S. forces will continue to maintain a presence there. And under his watch plans are underway for 20,000 troops to be stationed within the U.S.
A presence he wants to bolster with a “civilian national security force,” according to his statement (here on YouTube) from a July campaign rally:
We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.
Before even taking office Obama has unfortunately already began to live up to the “new boss, same as the old boss” line…
