Retrial after Forced Confession
IN 1993, Leif Taylor, now 29, was convicted of shooting a grad student and attempting to steal a bicycle. The police investigation led them to Taylor, a 16 year old student. The detective questioned him for three hours, until he finally confessed to committing the crime.
Of the interrogation, only the last 11 minutes, when he confessed, were recorded. Taylor said that he repeatedly asked to speak with his mother, and a lawyer, but the detectives refused to let him do so.
